David Streib, M.A, M.F.A. holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Guitar Performance from Northern Illinois University where he explored classical, jazz, folk, electronic music and recording techniques while teaching and performing music in the local community. David studied classical guitar with Leon Borkowski and jazz guitar with guitarist George Christe while attending NIU.
David continues to study the finer aspects of the art of classical and flamenco guitar with Spanish guitar virtuoso Pepe Romero. Romero is recognized as one of the world’s finest concert guitarists. David’s pupil-teacher relationship with the Spanish Maestro began over a decade ago after working as the Art Director on the Emmy Award nominated PBS Television program “Los Romeros: The Royal Family of the Guitar” .
National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion, Harvey Reid, provided David with expert instruction in steel string fingerstyle guitar, flatpicking and crosspicking. David created the cover illustration for Harvey’s debut recording “Nothin’ But Guitar”
Master classes and workshops have allowed David to study with many outstanding steel string performers such as: Leo Kottke, Michael Hedges, Alex DeGrassi, Doc and Merle Watson, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, and Pierre Bensusan.
Rock and Jazz electric guitar introduced David to guitar studies as he entered high school. Inspired by popular music and the success of a neighborhood band “Cheap Trick”, David joined forces with guitarist Michael Holdsworth to form the band “Phoenix”. David has performed professionally with rock & country bands, jazz ensembles and classical duos- including working on stage productions of the musical “Annie”.
Currently, David shares his love for the performing arts with a career in the applied visual arts. David is a four-time Emmy Award winning Production Designer – Holding Masters degrees in Computer Graphics, Video/Film and Art/Design from Northern Illinois University and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
